Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many prosecutions have been instituted in each of the years from 1961 to 1970, inclusive, against employees for wilfully or without reasonable cause doing anything likely to endanger himself or others, under Section 143(2) of the Factories Act, 1961; how many of such prosecutions have been of persons under the age of 18; how many are persons under the age of 21; and how many in each category have resulted in convictions.

There were no prosecutions for the offences described in 1961. For the next nine years the numbers were 4, 3, 2, 3, 3, 1, 4, 5, and 8 respectively. All were successful save one in 1962. Information as to age is not available.

There were no prosecutions for the offences described in the period 1961 to 1966, or in 1968; there were two in 1967, one in 1969, and one in 1970—all successful. Information as to age is not available.
