HC Deb 08 March 1971 vol 813 cc14-5W
90. Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what discussions he has held with representatives of other European maritime powers concerning the passage through the English Channel of ships carrying hazardous cargoes other than oil or petroleum products.

Mr. Anthony Grant

None, Sir. But the United Kingdom, together with other major maritime countries, is playing an active part in the preparation of an international code for the construction and equipment of vessels carrying hazardous cargoes in bulk.

91. Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many ships have passed through the English Channel during the last 12 months carrying agents of chemical or biological warfare.

Mr. Anthony Grant

I have not complete information since there is no international requirement that the United Kingdom should be informed of cargoes in ships which do not come to the United Kingdom.
