HC Deb 04 March 1971 vol 812 c520W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for the Social Services for the last full year for which information is available, how many staff of the Supplementary Benefits Commission in the clerical and executive officer grades, respectively, left their jobs in each of the Department's administrative regions; and what proportions these figures represent of the total number of staff in post in these grades at the start of the year in question in each of these regions.

Mr. Dean

Some offices formerly dealing with Supplementary Benefit are now integrated with former Social Security offices, and their staff are not treated separately. The following table shows the number of executive and clerical grades who left their posts in 1969, and as a percentage of total staff in those grades, in the regional organisation of the Department. It is not possible to apportion them between the English regions without an inordinate amount of work.

Class English Regions Wales Scotland
Executive 411 34 55
Percentage of total staff in grade 4.9 5 5
Clerical 2,330 156 401
Percentage of total staff in grades 9 7 10.5
