HC Deb 04 March 1971 vol 812 c500W
54. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is her policy towards stage training schools for children; whether any of these schools are recognised by her Department; and whether she will institute inquiries into the child employment agencies associated with these schools.

Mrs. Thatcher

These are independent establishments, seven of which are recognised as efficient independent schools. Those which are not recognised are not my concern unless they combine stage training with full-time education for five or more children of compulsory school age. They then have to satisfy the requirements of Part III of the Education Act, 1944, as independent schools. The last part of the Question is not for me.
