HC Deb 15 June 1971 vol 819 cc46-7W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the effects of his Budget proposals on the Scottish economy.

Mr. Maurice Macmillan

The Budget proposals were designed to bring back conditions in which sustained growth can take place in the national economy as a whole. The Scottish economy will benefit from this stimulus to overall demand and from the measures, announced in February. These recognised for the first time, the priority required by West Central Scotland which became a Special Development Area, and gave intermediate area status to Edinburgh/Portobello so that the whole of Scotland now receives assistance for industrial development under the Local Employment Acts.
