§ 22. Mrs. Knightasked the Secretary of State for Employment why the training levy on patternmaking and foundry-workers is higher than that on other sections of the engineering industry, in view of the fact that they make an equally important contribution to the economy.
§ Mr. BryanThe rate of levy on foundries is higher than that for engineering firms only in the case of establishments which have an annual payroll between £7,500 and £17,500. There is no reduction for foundry firms in this range since compared with engineering firms of the same size they employ a higher proportion of craft labour, especially in pattern-making.
