§ 23. Mr. Haselhurstasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he is aware of the severe handicaps in the way of epileptics obtaining employment; and what measures his Department is taking to assist these people to find jobs which they are capable of doing.
§ Mr. Dudley SmithI am well aware of these problems. My Department's Disablement Resettlement Officers try to overcome the reluctance of some employers to consider candidates with epilepsy by informing them about the real nature of epilepsy and how to deal with it in the working situation. Courses are available for those afflicted at Industrial Rehabilitation Units and we sponsor a number of suitable vocational training courses. Sheltered employment is available for the more severely afflicted.
