HC Deb 19 January 1971 vol 809 cc239-40W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) why he will not take steps to establish a food prices, distribution, and statistics board and invite on to membership thereof representatives of the Confederation of British Industry, Trades Union Congress, representatives of the wholesale and retail food distributors, the Co-operative Society and the Housewives League;

(2) why he will not introduce the necessary legislation to enable him to keep a register of food prices and the rise and falls since the first registered date of 18th June, 1970, such register to be collated from details supplied to him by consumers who shall be supplied by his Department with a pre-paid printed postcard on the basis of the sample forwarded to him by the hon. Member for West Ham, North.

Mr. Prior

Because I consider that the hon. Member's suggestions would serve no useful purpose.
