Mr. J. H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the total expenditure on research and development in the universities in the year 1969–70; how much of this was financed by university grants; how much by grants from outside agencies both public, including the Science Research Council, and private; how much was earmarked, sponsored or contract research sponsored by industry both public and private; and what has been the change over the past five years.
