HC Deb 08 February 1971 vol 811 c13W
80. Mr. Braine

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what estimate he has formed of the growth of oil tanker traffic in the Thames Estuary both in respect of existing refineries and any future refineries which may be established.

Mr. Noble

The Port of London Authority estimates that traffic in petroleum products on the River Thames excluding the Medway will rise from about 30 million tons this year to 33 million tons in 1974. Owing to increases in size there should be fewer tanker movements. There would be a further increase of more than 10 million tons of traffic if two oil refineries under consideration for Canvey Island were established there.
