§ Sir J. EdenThe study is now well advanced but consultations with the industries and trades concerned are not yet complete. The discussions will include consideration of the scope for relaxing export controls.
§ Mr. Darlingasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what was the tonnage and cost of scrap for steel making imported from the United States of America in 1970; and how much he estimates has been ordered and will be imported from the United States of America in the first quarter of 1971, stating the average price per ton of United States and domestic scrap.
§ Sir J. EdenIn 1970, 245,000 tons value at £6.6 million c.i.f., an average of £26.9 per ton. No estimates about imports of scrap in 1971 are available to me. The domestic price of good quality steelmaking scrap is, on average, about £12 14s. Od. per ton delivered.
