§ Mr. Dudley SmithAt 11th January. 1971, the percentage rate of unemployment for the area covered by the Shot[...]s Employment Exchange, which is the only employment exchange area wholly within the North Lanarkshire constituency, was 8.0. The remainder of the constituency forms relatively small parts of the Lanark. shire and Glasgow travel-to-work areas whose percentage rates at 11th January were 6.5 and 6.2, respectively. The corresponding figures for Scotland and the United Kingdom were 5.3 and 3.1. The numbers registered as unemployed have been expressed as percentages of the midyear estimates of the numbers of employees, employed and unemployed.
