§ Mr. H. Boardmanasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is now able to confirm the levy grant proposals put forward by the Hairdressing and Allied Services Industry Training Board.
§ Sir R. Thompsonasked the Secretary of State for Employment if, in view of the opposition of hairdressers to the proposed functions of the Hairdressing and Allied Services Industry Training Board, he will take steps to wind-up the board.
§ Mr. BryanMy right hon. Friend has considered carefully the Board's proposals for its first levy and grant scheme, together with representations from interested bodies. Examination of the proposals has demonstrated that it is difficulty for this industry to pay for a reasonable grant scheme as well as the Board's modest administrative costs. In 57W all the circumstances my right hon. Friend does not believe that this Board, which has not yet started effective operations, represents a justified extension of the industrial training board system, and he thinks that the right course is to enter into consultation with a view to winding up the Board. He is, therefore, taking immediate steps to this end.
