HC Deb 02 February 1971 vol 810 cc322-3W
Mr. Simon Mahon

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many new jobs will be available in Bootle when building for his Department is completed there; what redundancies or transfers of employment are envisaged in and from Bootle; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

On present plans, the Inland Revenue Computer Centre at Bootle will, when fully set up, employ some, 2,700 staff of whom about 1,400 are already working in Bootle; of the remaining 1,300 a little over half will be existing members of the Department from elsewhere and the remainder will be recruited locally; there will be no redundancies. It is too early to say how these plans may be affected by the review of mechanisation which I announced on 7th December.
