HC Deb 02 February 1971 vol 810 cc326-7W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will study the effects of the new gasoline additive butene olygomer, details of which are in his possession, in order to assess whether it could provide an adequate substitute for tetraethyl lead in reducing atmospheric pollution.

Mr. Peter Walker

My Department is constantly reviewing possible alternatives to additives such as lead which are used in motor fuel. I understand however that the substance mentioned by my hon. Friend (butene olygomer) is itself not free from objection as a pollutant of the atmosphere.
