HC Deb 05 August 1971 vol 822 cc456-7W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many tenants in the areas of the electricity boards have been required to pay deposits as a security against non-payment of accounts.

Sir J. Eden

I am asking the Chairman of the Electricity Council to write to the hon. Member.

Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what general directions he has given to the electricity boards requiring them to refrain from demanding payments from new tenants in any accommodation as security against non-payment of accounts.

Sir J. Eden

None. The boards have specifically been given statutory powers to require a security, but any tenant concerned about the manner in which they are implemented is free to raise it with the appropriate consultative council.
