§ 68. Mr. Chichester-Clarkasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what studies are being undertaken by his Department into the problem of condensation and mould in public sector housing schemes; and what action is being taken in the light of these studies.
§ Mr. ChannonThe causes of condensation are well known; the problem is to deal with it effectively and economically in the context of current building design and pattern of use of dwellings. My Department is analysing data which will provide information on the extent of the problem, and the effectiveness of various remedial measures is being examined. Studies on ventilation problems are also being carried out.
A number of publications and a filmstrip have been issued to guide both building designers and householders; these have been supplemented by a television feature, and conferences held in various parts of the country.
