§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is aware of the growing practice of vehicle owners parking their vehicles near to and adjacent to school premises, even where notices and yellow bands point out that this is illegal; and whether he will, in the interests of safety, introduce legislation to have all vehicular traffic banned from entrances to schools and adjacent thereto.
§ Mr. Eldon GriffithsYes this is a problem in some places. Local authorities are able to impose waiting restrictions and to lay road markings advising drivers to keep clear of school entrances but a national rule applied without regard to local needs is unlikely to be more effective.
