HC Deb 21 April 1971 vol 815 c406W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will give details of the official note delivered by the Zambian Government to the British High Commission in Zambia, on the question of the reception by the Zambian Government of a British trade delegation; and what was the nature of this note.

Mr. Kershaw

In a Note dated 24th March, 1971, the Zambian Government informed the British High Commission in Lusaka that Zambia would not be in a position to receive a Trade Mission from the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce which was due to visit Zambia in May.

In response to a request for an explanation the Zambian Government have said that the Note did not mean that the mission should not come to Zambia but only that Government officials and Ministers would not have time to see them. In these circumstances I understand that the Birmingham Chamber still intend to carry out their proposal to send the Mission in May.
