HC Deb 29 October 1970 vol 805 c191W
Mr. Stanbrook

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether in view of the fact that their living expenses are the same, she will abolish the distinction made in assessing grants between university and full-time non-university students.

Mrs. Thatcher

No such distinction is made in the case of students attending full-time first degree or comparable courses or receiving awards from central Government for postgraduate study. Whether a distinction is made in other cases is a matter for the discretion of local education authorities under Section 2 of the Education Act, 1962.
