asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the position of a citizen of the United Kingdom whose passport expires (and who wishes to renew it, or obtain a replacement) while he is residing temporarily overseas:

  1. (i) in a Foreign Country
  2. (ii) in a British Dominion
  3. (iii) in a British Colony.

THE MARQUESS OF LOTHIAN

A citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies whose passport expires while he is temporarily resident overseas can obtain further passport facilities from:

  1. (i) United Kingdom consular officesin foreign countries;
  2. (ii) British High Commission pass-port offices in other Commonwealth countries;
  3. (iii) the local passport authorities in dependent territories with the exception of Southern Rhodesia, in the case of which application should be made to the Consular Section of the British Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa.

Citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies possessing certain prescribed connections with the United Kingdom who have occasion to apply for replacement passports in dependent territories are given the option of having a locally issued passport or one obtained from the United Kingdom.
