asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many children aged 15 years or under, and how many adults, have been drowned in public swimming pools or baths in the past 12 months.

The figures for deaths stated or presumed to have occurred during 1969 in public swimming pools or baths in England and Wales are as follows:

Under 16 years 19
16 and over 21
In addition, 3 deaths under 16 and one over 16 occured in school or college pools and one under 16 in an hotel pool.
