asked the Minister of State for Defence what is the present position of the proposal to join with Italy and Germany to build a multi-rôle combat aircraft; and if he will make a statement.

The first major development phase which we launched with our German partners in July is now under way. I am glad to say that the Italian Government have decided to join in these arrangements.
