HC Deb 27 October 1970 vol 805 c113W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he is aware that in a densely populated area, Saltney, East Flintshire, an animal by-products factory is processing up to 50 tons of condemned meat daily and that the smell causes discomfort to residents; if he will assist the local authorities who are seeking to encourage the factory to move elsewhere, including assistance regarding possible compensation; and if he will employ the expertise of his Department to alleviate the problem.

Mr. Gibson-Watt

I am aware of the problem. Two planning applications by the firm concerned in respect of new sites in the Wrexham area have been refused by the local planning authority. An appeal has been made to my right hon. and learned Friend in connection with one of these applications and a public local inquiry will be held on 24th November.
