HC Deb 30 November 1970 vol 807 c259W
78. Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what study he has given to the scope for unilateral tariff cutting by the United Kingdom Government.

Mr. Noble

Our interests are best served by multilateral tariff reductions, and, subject to the House's approval, we shall be reducing tariffs over the coming months as a result of the Kennedy Round agreements and our decision to grant preferences to developing countries. I do not think general unilateral cuts by the United Kingdom would be appropriate now.
