HC Deb 26 November 1970 vol 807 c194W
60. Mr. Pentland

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what proportions of the total for England of young men of 20 years of age and under, and men of 45 years of age and over, unemployed for more than six months, were in the Northern Region, and the Midlands Region, respectively, at the latest available date.

Mr. Dudley Smith

At July, 1970, the latest date for which there is a detailed age analysis of wholly unemployed males in England who had been on the registers for more than 26 weeks, the proportions of those under 20 years of age in Northern Region and in the Midlands Region were 24.4 per cent. and 13.6 per cent. respectively. The corresponding percentages for those aged 45 and over were 18.8 and 17.7. Information for those aged 20 years is not available separately because the official age analysis includes them in the group aged 20–24.
