HC Deb 26 November 1970 vol 807 cc198-9W
Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he intends to take to encourage the concluding of productivity bargains in industry.

Mr. Dudley Smith

My Department continues to encourage industry to adopt measures to increase productivity.

Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he proposes to take to encourage productivity bargaining in low-paid industries.

Mr. Dudley Smith

We shall consider appropriate ways of tackling the problem of low pay in the light of the study now being made of family poverty and of the reports of the National Board for Prices and Incomes on the three references on which they are at present engaged of industries in which low pay is a problem. The Manpower and Productivity Service of my Department continues to provide advice to industry on the scope for and methods of increasing productivity.
