HC Deb 26 November 1970 vol 807 cc187-8W
44. Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will state Her Majesty's Government's policy as to the criteria for the granting of political asylum.

Mr. Carlisle

Her Majesty's Government's policy accords with Article 1 of the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. An applicant is not sent away if the result would be his going to a country to which he is unwilling to go owing to well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion.
