HC Deb 25 November 1970 vol 807 c158W
128. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what progress is being made with the plans for the improvement of facilities at Turnhouse Airport; and what estimate has been made of the total cost and completion date.

Mr. Noble

The British Airports Authority, in consultation with the Department of Trade and Industry and the Scottish Office, is pressing ahead with planning the development of Turnhouse. It is too early to forecast a completion date for the whole development. Subject to planning permission and the purchase of additional land, the earliest date by which the new runway could be completed is the summer of 1974. The estimated total cost of the new runway and terminal facilities is £8.4 million, subject to an adjustment for rising costs since 1968.
