HC Deb 25 November 1970 vol 807 cc174-5W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will cause an investigation to be held to ascertain why a letter sent to his Department under date of 10th November by the hon. Member for West Ham, North, did not receive a reply until 18th November, although this was dated 17th November, and as the reply stated it was being passed on to the Commissioner of Police for attention, why it took so long to reply; and whether he will expedite replies to correspondents in general and Members of Parliament in particular.

Mr. Richard Sharples

The hon. Member's letter was received on 11th November and an acknowledgment was sent to him on that day; an interim reply was dispatched on 17th November informing him that the Commissioner of Police had been asked for a report. There was no delay.
