HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 cc24-5W
Mr. Evelyn King

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has studied the decision in the case of Adams v. Adams as a result of which some English women divorced in Rhodesia are unable to remarry; and if in consequence of it he will propose an alteration in the law.

Mr. Anthony Royle

Yes. Hon. Members will by now have seen the Order-in-Council which has been approved by both Houses and which came into operation on 16th November. This enables individuals whose Rhodesian divorces cannot be recognised by United Kingdom courts to petition for divorce in this country without having to meet the normal qualifications of domicile or residence.
