HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 c25W
Mr. William Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are the extradition arrangements existing between Dubai and Iran.

Mr. Anthony Royle

I know of no extradition arrangements.

Mr. William Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the deportation of six men to Iran last week took place with the consent and knowledge of the British Political Resident in Dubai; and at whose request the deportation took place.

Mr. Anthony Royle

The British Political Agent in Dubai was not consulted. The six men, who are Iranian subjects, were being returned by the Dubai authorities to Iran at the request of the Iranian Government.

Mr. William Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement regarding all the circumstances in which six men being forcibly returned to Iran were put in a plane at Dubai last week and the circumstances in which the plane was hijacked.

Mr. Anthony Royle

The decision to return these six men from Dubai to Iran was taken by the Dubai authorities. Since the persons concerned were Iranian subjects, the matter was not within the jurisdiction of Her Majesty's Government.
