HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 c42W
Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he accepts the recommendation of the Farm Animal Welfare Advisory Committee that, although any revision of the Poultry Codes need only amend the wording of the preamble if experience shows that there have been difficulties in interpretation, on ethical grounds the number of birds per cage should be limited to three and space allowances expressed as a permitted number of birds per unit area.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

The Committee's recent Report made no recommendations on these issues. It stated the alternative conclusions which could be reached from the ethical and the scientific standpoints. The detailed proposals of my right hon. Friends on the recommendations in the codes will be circulated to interested organisations shortly.
