HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 cc28-9W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will bring to the attention of motor car manufacturers and the general public the benefits of fitting tungsten halogen headlamps in the interest of road safety;

(2) what survey his Department has made into the benefits, in terms of road safety, of headlighting systems which incorporate the twin-filament tungsten halogen quartz iodine for car headlamps.

Mr. Peyton

Work at the Road Research Laboratory confirms that tungsten halogen lamps are brighter. But brighter lamps cause more dazzle if they are not correctly aimed.
