HC Deb 16 November 1970 vol 806 cc298-9W
17. Mr. Walters

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the progress of consultations regarding future political arrangements in the Gulf.

Mr. Godber

Sir William Luce has been engaged in extensive consultations with the leaders in the Gulf States and with the governments of other States concerned. We will be considering Her Majesty's Government's future Gulf policy in the light of these consultations and of developments in the area. As regards the future political arrangements in the area, Her Majesty's Government can of course only advise and assist if this is desired. The major responsibility for these arrangements remains with the Governments of the States concerned.
