Mr. William Price

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people are at present waiting for admission to the Hospital of St. Cross, Rugby; and what was the figure 12 months ago.

946 on 31st October, 1970; 1,040 on 31st October, 1969.

Mr. William Price

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the present average cost per patient, per week, in the Hospital of St. Cross, Rugby; and what is the national average.

Mr. Alison

The average cost per patient per week in the Hospital of St. Cross at Rugby for the financial year 1969–70 was £66 10s. 10d. The national average cost in acute hospitals of over 100 beds was £55 14s. 0d. for the same year.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is satisfied with the availability of geriatric beds in the Rugby area; and if he will make a statement.

I have no evidence to suggest that the need for hospital geriatric beds in the Rugby area is not being met.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people have been waiting for a year or more to enter the Hospital of St. Cross for cold surgery.

During the year ended 30th June, 1970, 14,480 new patients attended; total attendances were 20,814.
