HC Deb 11 November 1970 vol 806 c207W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for the Social Services what is the percentage increase in remuneration awarded to general practitioners since June, 1970 and the total increase in public expenditure resulting from the award made on 1st April, 1970.

Mr. Alison

The increase in remuneration agreed by the previous Government in June resulted in increases of about 17 per cent. in the total payments to general medical practitioners by Executive Councils (including payments in respect of practice expenses). The further increase agreed in August has meant that the total increase in these payments is nearly 22 per cent.

It is estimated that the overall effect will be to increase total annual payments to general medical practitioners in Great Britain by £33 million a year.
