§ Mr. William Hannanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that the north-west of Glasgow is becoming under-doctored and that general practitioners have difficulty in obtaining premises adequate and suitable as surgeries; and when a start will be made on the redevelopment of this area, and in particular when the construction of the two proposed health centres will commence.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellI have no information to suggest that the number of 161W general practitioners providing services is inadequate to the needs of the area, though I understand there may be difficulties in finding suitable surgery accommodation. The timing of the redevelopment of the area as a whole is a matter for Glasgow Corporation, but my Department is now discussing possible sites for health centres for Maryhill and Possilpark. Depending on the outcome of local negotiations, I hope that construction work on them would start in about two years' time.
