HC Deb 09 November 1970 vol 806 c16W
Mr. J. H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what progress has now been made with the construction of a national exhibition centre near Birmingham; and what consideration has been given to improving facilities in or near London, with a view to providing more up-to-date facilities nearer London.

Mr. John Davies

Professional and other planning work is proceeding vigorously and the Government propose to make a contribution of up to £70,000 in 1970–71 to the cost of this work. A supplementary estimate will be presented in due course and in the meantime any necessary advance will be made from the Civil Contingencies Fund. My Department is not considering the provision of exhibition facilities in or near London.
