HC Deb 04 November 1970 vol 805 c378W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the poisoning of fish in Loch Fitty in Fife, in the interests of commercial fishing; and what consultations took place with local angling interests before this action was taken.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

In order to clear Loch Fitty of pike and perch before re-stocking it with trout and developing it for boat angling, the company which holds all the fishing rights applied for and was granted a permit for the use of rotenone which was applied to the loch on 29th August under the supervision of my Department's scientists. I cannot answer for consultation by the company but my Department consulted the local river purification board and fishery board.
