HC Deb 04 November 1970 vol 805 cc378-9W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many kidney machines are now being made available for use by patients in their own homes within the area of the South Eastern Regional Hospital Board; and what steps are taken to ensure that such machines can be used with complete safety.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

Nine machines are at present available and six are on order for early delivery. Patients selected for home dialysis are fully trained in the techniques in hospital before beginning treatment at home. The equipment is maintained by the hospital authorities, and a telephone is installed in the treatment room within reach of the patient.
