HC Deb 04 November 1970 vol 805 c373W
97. Mr. Oswald

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will assist Edinburgh Corporation in any claim for additional financial assistance as a result of the escalation of costs involved in staging the Commonwealth Games.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The staging of the Games was the responsibility of the Main Organising Committee and I understand that the Committee are unlikely to call on the guarantee of £100,000 offered jointly by the Government and Edinburgh Corporation. Edinburgh Corporation provided the facilities with the assistance of a Government grant of £750,000 towards the cost of Meadowbank. These facilities remain for use, especially by the citizens of Edinburgh, and I see no case for any further Government assistance.
