§ 98. Mr. Gourlayasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received about the various type sizes and spacing by which candidates' descriptions were printed on the ballot papers of local authorities in Scotland at the municipal elections in May, 1970; and whether he will take steps to ensure that local authorities set out such descriptions on the ballot paper in a clear and uniform manner.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellI have received no representations on this matter but I accept that there were probably variations of practice as in the case of ballot papers for the General Election held in June. The matter will be considered at a meeting of officials concerned with the conduct of elections in Scotland which I hope to convene shortly; and the views expressed at this meeting will be conveyed to the Home Secretary's Electoral Advisory Conference.
