HC Deb 04 November 1970 vol 805 c398W
Mr. Laurance Reed

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what distance and/or depth limit the British Government will adopt for determining the seaward limits of Continental Shelf régimes.

Mr. Anthony Royle

While Her Majesty's Government would prefer a reasonably deep limit to national jurisdiction or a combination of depth and width to give a broad, deep limit, we are prepared to give positive consideration to other proposals, including the United States proposal for a shallow limit to national jurisdiction and a trusteeship area beyond it. Much depends on the international acceptability of these proposals.
