HC Deb 03 November 1970 vol 805 cc324-5W
Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what consideration has been given to the proposal that student nurses should be admitted in England and Wales at the age of 17½ years as in Scotland.

Sir K. Joseph

This has been considered by the General Nursing Council who have recently stated that they are not opposed to a reduction in the minimum age of entry but that the change should not be made until the conditions in which training is conducted have been improved. The matter is being kept under review and will no doubt be the subject of advice from the Committee on Nursing.
