HC Deb 03 November 1970 vol 805 c320W
Mr. Dykes

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement about the trend of the balance of payments on current account and the overall balance of payments.

Mr. Maurice Macmillan

The trend of the visible trade account in recent months has been obscured by the dock strike but I am satisfied that the current account as a whole remains in substantial surplus. In the seasonally unfavourable second half of the year there may well be some outflow of currency even though the current account remains satisfactory.
