HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 cc276-7W
Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action is being taken to produce standard design hospitals and to extend the existing arrangements for the provision of standard fittings.

Mr. Alison

Two district general hospitals are being built at Bury St. Edmunds and Frimley, to a design produced by a development team in the Department. A modified version is being prepared for the proposed hospital at King's Lynn and it is hoped that further use will be made of this design. Standard designs for some parts of a hospital have already been produced by Regional Hospital Boards and the Department. A joint project by Boards and the Department is now in progress to produce in due course complete sets of standard designs for departments in a range of sizes, capable of being fitted together to meet a wide variety of needs and sites. The recently published edition of the Manufacturers Data Base (previously entitled the Compendium of Hospital Building Assemblies) contains a substantially wider range of standard components.
