§ Mr. Nicholas Edwardsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what facilities are provided for the management training of those involved in hospital administration.
§ Mr. AlisonManagement training courses for hospital administrators in England and Wales are provided as part of a co-ordinated programme of management development recommended by the National Staff Committee. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of the Committee's detailed advice on this subject.
§ Mr. Nicholas Edwardsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what qualifications in management techniques are required for those appointed to senior administrative positions in hospitals; and what proportion of such appointments are held by those without any professional qualifications except in medicine.
§ Mr. AlisonParticular qualifications are not specified but considerable weight is attached to the possession of an appropriate professional qualification when senior appointments in hospital administration are being made. I understand from the National Staff Committee that some 9 per cent. of chief officers (secretaries and treasurers) in the hospital service in England and Wales do not hold professional qualifications.
