asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of any extra costs incurred by the Forestry Commission and its contractors because of the operation of British Standard Time during the last two winters; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ross:

The Forestry Commission has estimated that during the last two winters the total extra cost of its direct operations throughout Great Britain attributable to the introduction of British Standard Time has been of the order of £130,000; no information is available in respect of extra costs incurred by contractors.
