HC Deb 29 May 1970 vol 801 c626W
Mr. Stodart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the amount of grants and loans approved by the Highlands and Islands Development Board in 1969, for agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing and tourism, and the number of new jobs forecast and created in 1969.

Mr. Ross:

The amounts of grant and loan approved by the Highlands and Islands Development Board in 1969 for these purposes were as follows:

Grant Loan
£ £
Agriculture 3,120 59,285
Fisheries 29,063 214,697
Manufacturing and processing 65,825 270,502
Tourism 344,204 82,852
442,212 627,336

The number of new jobs thought likely to result from this assistance was 700, not all of which would be created in 1969. A complete record of jobs which have matured is not available, but sample checks have confirmed that the forecasts made by those receiving help were reasonably accurate.
